We were so blessed to have Katie Campbell on staff as an intern and camp leader this summer. Look at this amazing banner for Team Brazil that she designed and painted for camp. This woman represents ASB in all kinds of ways – shining from the inside out!
A total of 85 people participated either as campers, teen or adult leaders, members of the “Fab Food Team” or served in other ways to make ASB Summer Camp 2016 another fantastic year. Competing for bronze, silver and gold, ASB campers learned about the countries of Uganda, Japan, Brazil and France and also experienced the virtues of sportsmanship, humility, attitude and compassion. Team France won the gold medal but everyone was a gold medal winner in our eyes! Reach for the Top girls.. don’t ever stop!

Camp Leadership Team Kickoff This Friday – June 24!
June 21, 2016Our first planning session for the Go For The Gold Olympics-themed summer camp will take place at 9:00 am, June 24th at Hamby House – 62595 Hamby Road (across from Buckingham Elementary). Friday’s group will start planning for activities, decor and the general fun of camp, but will also focus on empowering all leaders to shine like the stars they are. Bring your thinking caps and your own unique experiences to help us get started on this creative process. Your attendance will contribute to the momentum of a fun-filled camp this year!
All 3 ASB programs made special St. Patrick’s Day cards and treats for members or former members of our military branches. We focused on the importance of experiencing and expressing gratitude for those who have served our country in various ways. From special cards to making energy balls for local Veterans, the girls of ASB were indeed a blessing to many this winter!

Winter for the THRIVE! middle school group wrapped up with a super fun celebration of team competitions including making our own pizzas. Papa Murphy’s provided each of the girls with individual mini pizzas and all of the fixings. They were marvelous! We thank the owners of the Bend Papa Murphy’s for their generosity in providing the best snack in the world!
THRIVE! girls found new ways to express their feelings using their new chalk boards (kits provided by Home Depot). Some girls experienced their first opportunity to build with a hammer and nails. From chalk board kits, to hammers, paints and even an experienced “builder” (Thank You – Big Buddy Brettney!) the middle school girls of THRIVE! had an awesome day learning to overcome obstacles – including construction challenges!
Most everyone contemplates their new year’s resolutions this time of year. Buddies are dreaming bigger than just short term goals. January lessons at all three ASB programs are encouraging Buddies to define their dreams… big dreams…believing that we can each take steps to make dreams and goals happen. Girls have been asked to identify at least one thing that they want to see happen in their future and then define the steps to accomplish that dream using SMART goal techniques. Watch out world.. here come some amazing young women who are going to change life for the better!
If you want to make a difference in the lives of young women right here in Bend – join us and become a Buddy mentor. Contact Char at afterschoolbuddies@gmail.com to learn how!
